Evaluation Question 7

7.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
My perliminary task was very contrasting to the film that we used although most of the editing was the same like the 180 degree and the panning shots. I found the editing a lot easier as it wasnt as complicated but it showed me the basic editing skills like cutting and cross fading, there is a slight problem with getting our preliminary task to go through facebook and also the final piece so hopefully i should be able to get them one there.

The preliminary task really helped it taught us about the angles the shots to be in how to hold the camera so there are not shakes and the rules of 180 degree, shot reverse shot and the match on action all really worked well. Going through the door was hard to know when to pause the camera and when to start it again which i think we achieved very well, just needed to make it flow a little bit better.

i think if we had more time on them it would have been a lot better but we had the skills to proceed to editing our film it helped knowing how to work the cameras before we used them to create our piece. We learnt about how we could learn different shots like panning with a dolly making it easier for us to try out different things with the camera and once you knew how to do it you could then try it out on your final piece.

Evaluation Question 6

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

the programme that we used to cut and edit our final piece was 'Final Cut Express' i found this very hard to use for the first time but as i edited more i started to know what I could do and understand to create what i wanted.

I used editing such as cross fading,  fading in and out, adding title sequences, cutting, rolling, fast transitions with black outs, cross fading of music and using the light and darks also the opacity.
using these gave me the effect i wanted to achieve i used a JVC camera which was light and easy to use not the best to use in the dark as it was hard to see so we used another light. some of the technology that i used didn't always work for me how i wanted it to moving it all around on 'final cut express' is very hard when you seperate the clip from the sound when you move it the sound doesn't go with it so its a bit hard once your are close to your final project to alter anything else.

Editing takes a lot of your time up more then when you are filming it is a long process and we were low on time but i feel our final piece came out to the standard we expected.

Evaluation Question 5

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
Attracting an audience is rather hard you need to know who you are targeting well before you know what you are even going to film by doing this you can start to understand what to research who to undersatnd why they have used something to attract an audience. i addressed the audience with a moral and connecting the thoughts to them through the fast pace music and using the codes and conventions of horror has helped to show the audience what they could find out right at the end as the girl seems serspitious it is left on a cliff hanger making a lot more people to see what happens next.
Many of the aspects such as lighting the narrative or the characterization to show the film what it is about what it will be like and how you will epfdkn with the characters.

i found that the sound was very catchy and a lot of people would recognize it making it become the sort of iconic thing about this film. looking at other 15 ratings they arent very violent but they do show some disturbing images which is the same as mine.
like this clip from 'Final Destination' which is rated 15 shows blood and guts but doesn't show the action of the death it goes black or it cuts to someone else in the scene.

Evaluation Question 4

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

My main audience would be between young teens up and about 25 i have rated the film as a 15 as it may have violence and drugs but it does not show the murder so it is very reserved.
My audience is tricky as there is a wide range of people who enjoy thriller/ horror but i would say the main audience would be young adults.

I feel it appeals to female and male even though it is about all these girls as a 2 minute opening you wouldn't know that the killer is infact a girl, this would be interesting as it could change a lot for my target audience there could be more males as they like the violence and the tense atmosphere.

Evaluation Question 3

3. What kind of media instution might distribute your media product?
For my film it is a sort of niche horror film which there wouldnt be a high budget film unless it was made into a very big production from the reactions from the audience. It would be placed in the special cinemas or at festivals such as 'Fesatival De Cannes' one of the biggest international festivals.

As it is a 2 minute opening people could stream the product online on YouTube and Vimeo and watch clips as well as they can stream there own exapmles or a fan series this will help to distribute the product by viral advertising.

I have made it by the Haches Brothers which was also by the 'silence' which is our backing track. The idea that this is the same sort of fillm as they are both horror and thriller genres so i decided to use that production company.

Evaluation Question 2

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product is mainly based around the social groups that are interested in horror or thriller genres making this mixed helps to attract a ranger audience as one group may like horror and the other group make like a thriller so it draws both audience in. the idea that it is three girls that are friends and the narrative of this genre can attract young women and young men and maybe couples that went to see a horror movie.

The movie is about a heroin addict and some people may relate in a way to the violence that can be surrounded by this drug or any drug, showing this in my film has shown that it is connecting with ideologies i am showing that not just the typical male would do drugs but in fact that a innocent underaged girl will do drugs. Getting this personal message across helps to connect to the audience which they like to understand things that are going on is society.
Knowing that this can be shown as a real life situation makes it even easier to attract an audience it hold tension and creates an empathy for many of the characters, the girl that is the killer doesn't have so much screen time as at the start her identity is concealed but when it get further into the clip more and more of her is seen this connotes that she is slowly being found out for her guilt that she has for killing the girls. The friends have the most screen time in the shots this is to create sympathy for them but this is not in contrast to the killer as at the end you also have sympathy for this character as she knows she is the wrong but the drugs control her.

Evaluation Question 1

1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product is a 2 minute opening and in most of the extract it hits the typical codes, conventions and forms but challenges them with the characterisation.
The genre i chose was thriller/horror as there typical conventions are to have a victim normally a women, a killer normally a man and a witness. The whole film is dark and gives a gloomy effects, the music would be fast paced as there would be a chase involved.
The idea between my idea for the conventions is to have this very dark light and this light behind them connotes the warning of danger as you can see a dark figure in the background you can clearly see that it is building tension the music with this is from the movie 'silence' which Me and Sarah thought would suit perfectly with the pace that we have set this peace.    I looked at the REC this movie inspired me as
a 'horror' genre to use the light in a effective way and where to place it to create this tension and excitement for the audience.

I used this lighting once again as the head lights drove past it gave the effect that there is danger around and connoting that they are connected to something horrific. This are all conventions of horror/ thriller but there is a challenge of  this conventions as the killer is in fact a women she is the best

friends  mate who is on drugs and murders one of the girls. only showing certain parts of the girl helps us to convey the character as being very mysterious and you only see her face at the very end which is a shock that it is a girl and is there best friend. Making this ideology helps to show the audience that the typical conventions has been broken and the the reason i have portrayed her at the start as a man it gives this character her counter type status.

By using this genre i feel that i have used the conventions to the best of
my advantages the light i think works really well i have used a black hoodie for the killer as she is portraying a very evil character and showing the male gender that people see to be more threatening and considering it is a girl killing a girl it needs to be shown to the audience how much people think that the killer is a dangerous male.

Editing

I have been looking at using the different types of scene in different ways but i have recently been looking at the ways i can do my final edits the narrative is a bit confusing as it says, '6 months later ' but we have now changed this and added a physiatrics interview between the girl who died best friend which witness this incident which is showing a contrast in light as the main scene is dark and daunting but this interview is now showing the girls innocence and how scared she was.

Editing

we have filmed all of the processes for the film we are now using final cut express to edit the shots we have taken.
we started to put each on in order and then we decided to over lay some to make them match to how we would have liked them.

More Editing.....

we then looked at the linking of each one when fading into one another.

This helped by showing the transitions of each shot i liked the way we have used it.

we edited some of the lighting as some bit were a bit dark like this shot of Sarah.

Filming

We started our first filming in the second week of the christmas holiday. we have had some timing issues as it is the last scene that we are finding the hardest, we also had some problem with the lighting as we wanted to get the dark and erie atmosphere but we needed a touch to see. We had fog on the day we filmed which we thought was going to be very good but it jas just made it much worse as it became darker. The filiming is going good by what we have already we just have the last scene to shot so we will be doing that sometime this week and hopefully it will work.

We now have got all of our film and starting to edit we have got each bit into order and have cut the shots were we want them. we are still looking at the type of music to use after the voice over for the news report, It is going all ok so far.
